More than one in four in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal Province (27%) are living with HIV. Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of death in the country and it is estimated that 60% of those living with HIV are co-infected with TB as well. |
HIV Positive Children
Only 47% of South Africa's HIV positive children are currently on life-saving antiretroviral treatment. An even smaller 16% of these vulnerable children are currently thriving on their medications. We have a tremendous opportunity to ensure a long, healthy life for each precious child. |
Gender-Based Violence
South Africa has the among the world's highest rates of violence against women and girls. This violence can take many forms, from intimate partner violence, to traditional practices such as early forced marriage. The killing of women is five times higher in South Africa than the global average. |
