You care about protecting and caring for innocent children. You want every child to grow up with a chance at living a long, healthy, fulfilling life.
Nesta wanted these same things for her young daughter, Melo. No mother would ever intentionally infect her child with HIV. But yet, Nesta unknowingly infected her young child with the life-limiting virus when she was still breastfeeding. Nine years have passed and Melo is now starting to ask questions about why she takes pills twice a day. Her mother still feels so ashamed at her unwitting role in her daugher's becoming infected, and doesn't know how to tell her the truth. But she knows that she must somehow, one day soon. The weight of her guilt and shame seem to nearly overwhelm her and leave her feeling stuck and alone. |
This is where Thembalethu steps in. Giving Nesta the information, counselling and support to come to terms with her own HIV status. Removing the isolation, guilt and shame that Nesta is feeling. Helping developing a roadmap towards disclosing to Melo about her HIV status so that she too can come to terms with her diagnosis and thrive into adolescence and adulthood despite it.
Your support can help Nesta and Melo in their journeys. Give to Thembalethu - Our Hope South Africa today to help bring life, healing and hope to Nesta, Melo and the many other families like theirs.
